This year's third annual sale is Friday and Saturday only, September 23 & 24, at Douglas County Fairgrounds. Audio-Reader is now accepting donations of gently used audio products, records, CDs, DVDs, books on tape, clock radios, guitars, media cabinets, MP3 players, and anything else audio. Bring your donations to Audio-Reader, in Lawrence (Here's a map to find us.) or to KCUR radio at 4825 Troost in Kansas City. Or call 785.864.4600 (outside Lawrence, toll-free at 800.772.8898) for pickup of your donated goods.

We hope to see you at this year's sale, which also features Bond girls and other costumed well-knowns, theme snacks and refreshments, and even locally crafted earrings.

For Your Ears Only 2004

The 2004 For Your Ears Only sale of everything audio was another tremendous success. Donations included the full boxed set of Twilight Zone videos, and a dozen unopened audiophile LPs that fetched a hundred dollars each. The final tally was around $11,000, proving that last year's sale was no fluke.

This year many turntables and cassette decks were donated. We replaced all drive belts with new ones, and the turntables turned out to be the hit of the sale. All were sold within a couple of hours. And none of the cassette decks was purchased. So if you're in the market for a premium, low hours dual cassette deck, you'll want to be there early at the 2005 sale; this may be their year.

As always, thanks so much to everybody who helped make this sale a success, and thanks to all of you who donated, and especially you shoppers who came from all over the midwest for values on great music and sounds.

For Your Ears Only 2003

“For Your Ears Only” A Resounding Success

2003 poster The predictions were correct! For Your Ears Only was a definite success.
After raising more than $10,000 through a sale of donated records, CDs, and other audio products, Audio-Reader is ready to do it again! The September 26-28 “For Your Ears Only” sale of donated vinyl records, CDs, books on tape, turntables, tape recorders, and other gently used audio products at the Douglas county Fairgrounds, raised $10,672.75 to support Audio-Reader’s plans to convert its radio-based service to a digital satellite system. Proceeds from this special event will be applied toward the $40,000 cost of the conversion.

“We’ve definitely found our signature event,” said Audio-Reader Director Janet Campbell. “The interest in this sale was amazing, with people coming from as far away as Emporia, Council Grove, and Hays. It was a great way to raise money toward our digital satellite conversion, and to let more people know about Audio-Reader’s mission.” Audio-Reader is grateful to the individuals and organizations that donated items for the sale, to the wonderful volunteers who helped organize and staff the event, and to the businesses that donated items and sponsored advertising. (A complete list of these sponsors will be included in the spring edition of “Airwaves.”)

Some of the Bond Girls who livened up the Friday night opening, posing with the evil Phil “Phergus” MacWilke from KPR (sorry you can’t see the kilt), and the honored guest of the evening, Admiral Boyd, James Boyd.

Staff and volunteers are already making plans for next year's sale, tentatively scheduled for September 24-25, 2004. Donations of CDs, vinyl records, videos, turntables, VCRs, tape recorders, and other gently used audio products will be accepted at Audio-Reader after January 1. In order to make next year’s sale bigger and better, Audio-Reader is seeking easily accessible climate-controlled storage space and able-bodied volunteers to pick up donated audio products. To volunteer, donate items for sale, or provide storage space, call (785)864-4600 or 1-800-772-8898.
