Lions Telephone Reader Publications and Materials List


Publication 1: The Kansas City Star.

The entire newspaper, except classified ads (recorded on request) and comics, is read daily, seven days a week by around 10 am. Popular sections: Obituaries, FYI, Advice columnists. Special features include Preview on Fridays, Star Business Weekly on Tuesdays, and KC Star Weekend Features on Sunday. Also, weekend magazines are read in the Star, including Parade, USA Weekend, and Star Magazine.

Publication 2: TV Guide.

Read weekly, throughout the course of the week. Sections read verbally include the cover story and articles, news, Premium Channels Movie Guide and the TV Guide horoscope. Sections read by synthesized voice/readers include the Monday-Sunday daily listings, from Zap2it.com.

Publication 3: Audio-Reader Programs.

A weekly rebroadcast of shows from Audio-Reader, including the daily Roundtable programs, newspapers including the Wichita Eagle, Lawrence Journal-World and Christian Science Monitor, magazines including the New York Times magazine, and specialty programs such as the Children's Hour, On the Lighter Side, and Old Time Radio. Book readings are not rebroadcast on Telephone Reader.

Publication 4: Topeka Capital-Journal and Dos Mundos.

These comprise the 'regional publications' on Telephone Reader. The Capital-Journal is read via synthesized computer voice, and is updated daily. It includes all sections of the newspaper, including National News, News from Topeka, Statehouse News, and Opinions and Editorials.

Dos Mundos is a Spanish language newspaper from the Kansas City area and is read when we receive the copy of the paper. We read both the Spanish and English sections of the paper.

Publication 5: The Wichita Eagle.

Entire newspaper read via synthesized voice daily. Sections include Front Page, Local and State, Obituaries, Tuesday Health & Fitness and Friday's "Go Section".

Publication 6: The Kansas City Star, 1-day-old.

This is an archive of the Kansas City Star publication from the day before.

Publication 7: National Publications.

USA Today, New York Times, Wrestling USA (magazine). USA Today and the New York Times recorded via synthesized voice daily. Wrestling USA is a monthly magazine covering amateur wrestling read by a regular reader. Magazine read cover-to-cover, excluding small-print statistics.

Publication 9: Lions Telephone Reader Newsletter, Audio-Reader Program Schedule, Public Service Announcements.

Telephone Reader newsletter is recorded monthly and includes items of interest to TR listeners. Program Schedule includes listings of coming book readings on Audio-Reader, including Top of the Morning, Armchair Adventure Hour, The Book Was Better, Reflections, and the Mystery and Mature Subject Hours.
