The Chubby Smith Collection: Guitar & Audio Sale
Saturday, October 24 | 5-8pm
Lawrence Arts Center | 940 New Hampshire St
FREE Admission!
Join Audio-Reader and the Lawrence community for a special evening celebrating the life, creativity and musical legacy of Chubby Smith.
Chubby was a longtime musician, craftsman and member of the Lawrence music community whose creativity extended far beyond performing. Over the years, he built and customized an extraordinary collection of guitars and other instruments, often putting his own unique artistic touch on each piece.
On Saturday, October 24, from 5–8 p.m. at the Lawrence Arts Center, nearly 100 of Chubby’s handmade, one-of-a-kind guitars will be available for purchase, along with name-brand guitars, vintage and high-end audio equipment, amplifiers, other instruments and more.
Enjoy live music by The Eudoras, grab a drink from the cash bar, browse the collection and take home a piece of Chubby’s creative legacy.
Proceeds from the event will benefit Audio-Reader and the Smith-Mulvihill family.
Guitar Pricing
Guitars and basses will be priced from $100–$500. All guitars, instruments and audio equipment on display at the event will be available for purchase.
Interested in a Guitar? Here’s What to Know
We want buyers to have the opportunity to experience Chubby’s guitars while also making it possible for everyone to browse and enjoy the collection.
All guitars and amplifiers are offered as-is. Each guitar has been inspected and tested and is functioning normally — or at least as Chubby intended! Any known exceptions will be noted on the guitar’s description card.
Guests are welcome to try guitars unamplified at one of several designated seating areas. Because of the limitations of the event space, we are unable to accommodate testing guitars with an amplifier. We appreciate your understanding and ask that you keep your try-out time brief so others have an opportunity to play as well.
Because these are individual and often handmade instruments, guitars may require setup or adjustments to suit the new owner’s preferences and playing style.
A few additional purchase details:
- Guitar cases are not available. However, if your guitar has a stand and/or strap, those are yours to take with your purchase.
- If an instrument is found to be materially different from how it was described and the issue is reported to Audio-Reader within 7 days of purchase, it may be eligible for return.
- Personal preferences regarding setup, playability or sonic characteristics are not considered grounds for a return.
